What happens when you take Kia's new Rondo crossover vehicle and pump it up with a cold air induction system and dual catback exhaust? You come up with the new Rondo SX concept, which took center stage during the final preview of this year's Chicago Auto Show.
The easy-breathing version of the Rondo's standard 2.7-liter V-6 turns out 192 hp, 10 more than the base model. In show car trim, there's a chromed mesh grille with a large under-bumper air intake. The Rondo SX gets 18-inch alloy wheels (the stock car's are 17s), larger sport brakes, and a wind-cheating body kit. The suspension has been lowered three inches, as well.
Inside, the Rondo SX gets a more sporty cabin, with such touches as aluminum pedals and red-and-black-trimmed leather seat
"It isn't a production vehicle," cautioned marketing boss Ian Beavis, "At least, not yet." But it was clear from the way Kia officials looked at and talked about the SX - the company's official sporty-car designation - that the Rondo spin-off is likely soon bound for showrooms.
